Denver Courthouse Wedding Photos

Today I’m taking a little editing break to post a quick sneak peek of these Denver courthouse wedding photos from Sarah + Steve’s beautiful day back in May!  We did the first look in one of the most breathtaking urban spots in all of downtown Denver: the Byron J. White Courthouse (which is also one of my most favorite locales for photos in all of the Mile High City).

Afterwards, we cruised to RiNo for a couple of quick photos of the couple together and a few with their bridal party.  We finished with some early evening portraits at their ceremony venue, the Trinity Church, which has so much history behind it (built in 1887 and is also on the National Historic Register).

I can’t wait to share the full post of their gorgeous day, which finished with their reception at the Space Gallery in the Santa Fe Art District.  Enjoy this little sneak peak for now!

Cable Center Wedding Denver

This post is dedicated to all the fine-tuned, hand-picked, sentimental AF details that you include in your wedding.

These smaller parts of the wedding day are sometimes overlooked by guests, but they are definitely not ignored by me.  I’m a sucker for all the little pieces you bring together for your celebration, ranging from something borrowed to something blue, and everything in between.

I’m an incredibly nostalgic person.  You’ll see this word thrown around a shit-ton on this blog.  I love to look through boxes of old photos, airline ticket stubs, and letters from friends dating back to my time in California in the 90s.  There is just something so damn romantic about looking back on your favorite, most cherished memories.

Readers of the internet: are you like me?  Do you have a little time capsule of important trinkets that you hold onto?

In honor of all these little mementos, I’m throwing together this blog post featuring just the details from a recent Cable Center wedding I had the pleasure of photographing back in December.  Alex + Greg put together a stunning geode theme with all the colors from my favorite palette: the Crayola Bold crayon box.

In true The Sound Of Music fashion, here are a few of my favorite things from their day:

  • That emerald engagement ring!  Such a stunning, unique piece (well-done, Greg)
  • That geode cake!  I’m loving this trend of statement desserts like these
  • Alex’s nontraditional blush wedding dressMove over, ivory + white, there’s a new sheriff in town
  • Those hella sparkly purple bridesmaids dresses!  These are definitely the type that you can wear again (aka the best kind of bridesmaid dress)
  • The entire peacock color palette!  Alex + Greg did such a fantastic job of bringing this theme to life across the board, from their centerpieces to their flowers to Greg’s navy suit

I tip my hat to this inspired couple that really hit a home run with their Cable Center wedding.  Take a peek at all their gorgeous details below!

Lyons Riverbend Wedding

If you thought this Lyons Riverbend wedding couldn’t get any better, wait until you get to know Suzy and Sarah.

We actually met at one of my favorite neighborhood spots, El Camino, margaritas in hand — naturally. I knew immediately these were my kind of people.

Their engagement session was a blast, made even better by the addition of their dogs. Honestly, is there anything pups can’t improve?

Suzy and Sarah are warm, grounded, and genuinely thoughtful. They wanted a nontraditional celebration, and it only made the day feel more personal and intimate. A few of my favorite things about it:

  • Two incredible locations. The ceremony at Riverbend in Lyons and the reception down the road at the Lyons Farmette are a dream pairing. You can stay in the tiny home village nearby, incorporate farm-fresh produce into your menu, enjoy flowers harvested straight from the property — which is exactly what Suzy and Sarah did — and feel good knowing the Farmette team composts and recycles throughout the venue. That last part matters a lot to me.
  • Food trucks. When we say nontraditional, we mean it. Instead of a formal plated dinner with assigned seating, Suzy and Sarah brought in a food truck from Steuben’s. In their words, “We loved having a food truck and casual reception. No seating chart or served dinner. It made the evening more relaxed.” Hard to argue with that.
  • All the Colorado beauty, none of the I-70 headache. The mountains are stunning, but let’s be real — the drive is a lot. Lyons Riverbend and the Farmette deliver that breathtaking Colorado setting without the traffic. Somebody please fast-track that mountain rail line.
  • Alpacas. Yes, there are alpacas on the property. Yes, we took photos with them after the ceremony. No further explanation needed.

A laid-back couple, a wonderfully mixed bridal party, and an eco-conscious celebration — this is one I’ll be thinking about for a long time. Suzy and Sarah, thank you for letting me be part of your day. The next round of margaritas at El Camino is on me.

Curtis Hotel Denver Wedding

I adore a stunning Colorado mountain wedding, but there’s something about a vibrant, stylish urban celebration that truly lights me up as a photographer.

This Curtis Hotel Denver wedding had so much going for it beyond the epic dance party atmosphere — bold colors, incredible 90s hits, and a couple who made the whole day look effortless.

Kristi and Jason were an absolute joy to work with and made the day about everyone around them. Think amazing food, a dance floor that never quit, and a rooftop setup complete with an open bar and firepit.

A few more things I loved about this Curtis Hotel Denver wedding:

  • The city backdrop was everything. Their ceremony featured a stunning view of the Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower — a true Denver icon — alongside the exciting new skyline taking shape around it. Right up my alley.
  • Kristi was the picture of calm. When rain threatened just before the ceremony, she didn’t miss a beat — and sure enough, the skies cleared minutes before they said their vows. Classic Colorado.
  • Those florals. My talented friend Stephanie of Lalé Florals created the most breathtaking arrangements in the boldest, most joyful color palette. Bright, vibrant wedding flowers are having a moment — and honestly, they never should have left.

I’ll admit, dancing along to 90s bangers all night left my feet a little worse for wear — but this was one of those weddings that filled everyone in the room with pure joy. Kristi and Jason, thank you for welcoming me into your tropical urban paradise in the heart of Denver. Enjoy some of my favorite moments from their day!

Interview with the Bride

What was your favorite part of the wedding day? “Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing my husband at the altar. And of course, dancing the night away with everyone we love.”

If you could give one piece of advice to other couples planning their weddings, what would it be? “Music. Food. Booze. Don’t overthink it — people just want to celebrate with you. Keep it simple, because it’ll all be a blur by morning anyway.”

What was your favorite thing to plan or design and why? What would you outsource if you had to do it all over again? “Choosing the venue and the color palette was so fun — I wanted it to feel like a tropical 70s nightclub, and I think we nailed it. And Lalé absolutely crushed the florals. Everything else? I’d happily hand that off to someone else. Wedding planning is not my thing!”

What did you do that was non-traditional or outside the box? “A tropical mod wedding in Denver, for starters! Jason’s father passed away ten years ago, but he was legendary for his Hawaiian shirts and his ability to light up a room — just like his son. Incorporating Hawaiian shirts felt like the perfect way to honor him, and it set the whole tone for the day.

“The Curtis Hotel was an instant yes. The bold colors, the art-pop energy, and the convenience of having everything under one roof made it a perfect fit. Jason and I grew up in South Dakota and Connecticut respectively, but we fell in love in Denver — so it felt right to bring everyone here. We kept things relaxed and casual, right down to bringing the dog.”

Where did you go for your honeymoon? “Rio de Janeiro for Carnival in Brazil, followed by a beach resort to decompress. Perfection.”

Anything else you’d like to share? “After the reception, guests hopped on a line of pedicabs to the after-party at Appaloosa Grill for live music, then back to the Spice Girls Suite at The Curtis to keep the night going. The final song of the evening? Everyone belting ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in a circle on the dance floor. Perfect ending.”

7 Simple Ideas For An Eco-Friendly Denver Wedding

I recently wrote this article for Style Me Pretty and am so excited to share with you here!

Artwork Network Denver wedding photos

You recycle every can and bottle, love to shop local and maybe even have a compost bin in your backyard. Why not extend your eco-friendly lifestyle to your wedding planning process?

As a Denver wedding photography, I get to see the many ways brides and grooms are adding sustainability to their weddings.

Here are my seven tips for eco-conscious couples:

CREATE A SAVE-THE-DATE VIDEO OR EVITE

I won’t lie: getting a letter in the old fashioned post is hella romantic.

But in a day and age where conservation is key, it is prudent to explore alternative options for save-the-dates and invites. Consider a video save-the-date that you can email out to your guest list, or an evite with all the necessary info.

This will not only save you cash, but will also eliminate unnecessary paper waste. However, if you’re dead-set on mailing your info to your guests, you can use recycled paper stock.

GO VINTAGE

If you’re a hugely sentimental and nostalgic person (like I am), you could skip purchasing your bling and wedding threads new altogether. Perhaps there’s an heirloom ring or necklace in your family that could be passed down?

I’ve also seen a few brides (see the photo from Nicholas + Emily’s wedding above, where she wore her mom’s retrofitted dress) of mine wear their mother’s dress (after they’ve made a few updates with a tailor) and the end result is just stunning.

Lastly, you can also check out consignment stores that specialize in secondhand options for attire and accessories. Why not save a little cash on an outfit you’re only going to wear once?

PEEP YOUR LOCAL CRAIGSLIST ADS

Instead of buying 150 brand-new mason jars, sift through your local Craigslist ads to see if there are any couples selling their used wedding novelties and décor.

Or, do a quick Google search for rental companies that may already have these items (e.g. silverware, vases, decorations) amassed for you. No need to reinvent the wheel!

ASK YOUR VENDORS FOR ONLINE CONTRACTS

As a vendor myself, I keep my contracts online so that I don’t have to print out important paperwork to put in the mail. If you’re a vendor and don’t have this set up just yet, look into resources such as Honeybook or MachForm, both of which allow you to store and sign proposals online.

Once my clients sign, I simply email them a PDF copy and voilà! No need to drop anything in the mail!

(Related: ask your photographer for an online gallery where you can download the images instead of getting a disc or USB in the mail.)

BOOK A SUSTAINABLE VENUE

One of my favorite wedding venues in all of Colorado is the Lyons Farmette. In addition to being obviously adorable, the site features an organic farm where produce and flowers are grown locally to be included in the weddings hosted onsite. How cool would it be to have a true farm-to-table wedding?

They also provide recycling and compost bins around the property to help reduce waste, something all venues should have.

(Related: think about donating your leftover wedding grub to local food bank or shelter.)

TRY OUT A NON-TRADITIONAL REGISTRY

People are getting married much later in life nowadays, which means that by the time they tie the knot, they probably already have all the fun kitchen gadgets and trinkets for their house. Instead of doing a traditional registry through a department store, try Honeyfund, which allows guests to donate online to less-traditional registry items like a down payment for a house or honeymoon activities.

DONATE TO YOUR FAVORITE CHARITY

Let’s be honest: do you really need another beer koozie from a wedding?

In lieu of gifts for guests, consider donating the cash you would have spent on favors to your preferred charitable cause.

I snagged this idea from a couple who decided to donate to a local foundation after severe flooding had devastated the groom’s hometown of Lyons, Colorado, in 2013. Shout-out to Caitlin + Zach!
