Denver Photography Mentoring

Denver wedding photography mentorOne of my business goals for 2022 is to return to my teaching roots.  Before I decided to helm this photography business full-time, I taught high school French at Northglenn High School for five years.  It was always my dream to have my own classroom full of budding Francophiles practicing how to order crêpes, with photos from past travels to France covering the walls.  The five years I spent in room 221 were an absolute blast, but I had to leave teaching in 2014 to get away from the unfortunately toxic political environment that was becoming more and more common at school districts all over the metro area.

One of the biggest things I miss from teaching (outside of my students) is being able to use the information and skills I’ve acquired over the years to help bring others closer to their goals.  There is something so cool about sharing your personal knowledge with someone else and seeing it all click in their head.  I want to get back to that this year!

In the past, I’ve done mentoring sessions with other photographers, videographers, and small business owners in person over coffee or beer.  With omicron raging abut, I’ve decided to reshape what my future mentoring sessions will look like.  Thanks to trusty ass Zoom, I’m super excited to offer a new virtual mentoring promo for the next few months.  Here are the details:

  • $100 for 60 minutes of mentoring time
  • No topic is off limits: editing, marketing, SEO, blogging, posing techniques (for portraits with couples and families, and also boudoir), interacting with clients, how to survive a wedding day, avoiding burnout, you name it!
  • Flexible timing now that it’s virtual: weekday mornings, on your lunch hour, before you pick your kids up from school, whenever!
  • Perfect for new and emerging photographers or seasoned veterans looking to add fresh techniques and info to their already vast knowledge base

I’d love to help anyone who’s interested in growing their business in 2022.  While I have the most background knowledge pertaining to the visual arts, I’m more than willing to mentor small business owners in similar industries (e.g. wedding florists, hair and makeup teams, service-based companies, etc.).  Feel free to get in touch and we can get started on planning your call!  Please include the topics you’d like to cover and your general availability.  Can’t wait to chat!

Denver Family Photographers

The progression from soft smiles into full-on laughter is my favorite part of any photo shoot, whether it’s mother and daughter photos like these, or any sort of portrait session.  But what’s even somehow better than that?  Getting a hug goodbye at the end of the shoot from Miss Kennedy here!  That just about made my whole year.  I’m currently terribly single (ha!), so I’ll take any affection I can get these days, especially in this funky covid era we’re still stuck in.

Thanks again to these two for sticking it out in the bitter cold with me and for always being kind, genuine, and seriously fashionable.  Happy Monday, and thank you for stopping by the blog!

City Park Denver Family Photos

City Park is quickly becoming my favorite location for Denver family photos.  I mean, look at these photos — can you blame me?!  This session certainly shows off all its accolades:

  • Faces the mountains and city to the west for those perfect, end-of-the-day golden hour rays of sunlight
  • A little bit city and a little bit nature, as the Denver Museum of Nature and Science provides some urban texture in their facades while backing up to a rose garden, wooded grassy areas, and a small pond
  • Not usually as trafficked or busy as some of the other popular Denver city parks (looking at you, Wash and Cheesman…)
  • Easy parking available at the museum with convenient, direct access to bus routes right off Colorado Boulevard
  • And obviously, lovely clients to go with everything listed above!

Thank you again to the Foy Family for spending a chilly but wonderful winter afternoon with me for their annual family photos.  Cheers to these four, and cheers to the new year!  Thanks for stopping by the blog.

Denver Fall Family Photos

My annual mini sessions roundup is here and I’m so excited to share these Denver fall family photos with you!

Each year, often in early November, I host one weekend day full of mini sessions, back-to-back.  This time around, I planned the day at Jefferson Park, just a handful of blocks down the street from where I live in North Denver (also known as the Highlands neighborhood).  The fall foliage was just perfect for our day of photos, especially as most of the vibrant leaves had fallen elsewhere around the city at this point in time.

This year, I had seven families swing through my mini sessions event.  We started in the early afternoon as the sun spliced through the golden leaves of the park’s trees, and ended right as nightfall approached.  I had not yet previously shot at this location and was a tiny bit nervous of how the lighting would turn out over the course of a few hours.  At the end of the day, when I uploaded all the raw files to my computer, I realized I had unnecessarily fretted as the light turned out beautifully for each family’s photos.

If I didn’t catch you for this year’s round of photos, I certainly hope to see you in 2022!  For now, please enjoy a snapshot of the day below.  Thank you for stopping by the blog!
